I Believe Therefore I Am by Claire McGee

i am claire

I Am Not Your Final Girl is a collection of horror-themed poetry draws on the female characters of horror cinema — the survivors, victims, villains, and monsters — who prowl through dark worlds, facing oppression, persecution, violence, and death. I have stood in their long shadows, propped them up with my own two hands, reached for their inscrutable faces in the dark. I can not think of a better book to read after finishing Madeline Miller's Circe earlier this week. And those feelings are really hurt, so hurt, in fact, that the speaker longs for death in the poem's final stanza. The worst thing about the name: I have to spell it out for people because they get it wrong.

I Am Poem by John Clare

Some people don't understand my love of horror movies and how it gels with my passion for equality, justice, and feminisms. Holland What a badass little book of feminist horror poems! She has been a freelance writer for more than ten years. The poems' titles are the names of the characters being explored, with the movie and year the movie was released below. Yet still, there were so many moments that hit me in the gut. The best thing about the name Claire: It goes well with most surnames and middle names - it's actually quite versatile The worst thing about the name: Well, people never spell it right! Extra information: When you watch shows nowadays I hear the name Claire alot! She so perfectly articulates something that I didn't even realize I was thinking.

I was a bit wary; although I love horror movies as well as poetry, I haven't come across many successful attempts to bring those two things together. The poems stand alone as stories of the resiliency of the human spirit and the true badass nature of women. I love this collection so much, and I have no doubt that I will be revisiting it. I also wasn't sure about what to expect knowing this was written with a feminist twist on horror movies. All of a sudden, Johnny is all alone; he hangs out by himself before class, at break, during lunch, and after school. From the white picket fences of 1970s Haddonfield to the apocalyptic end of the world, Holland confronts the role of women in relation to subjects including feminism, violence, motherhood, sexuality, and assault in the world of Trump and the MeToo movement.

Since I teach a horror literature class, this book will become a treasured teaching tool. I was fascinated by the concept of this book, and am happy to say that I was not disappointed by this book. If it were possible to die of maximum cuteness and hilarity, I probably would've done so over this brief read. Anyways - important, timely, essential and insightful work to resonate with our current times. After reading the stories you find in the poetry here, you will know these women because these women are all of us. There are poems written about movies that I haven't even heard of, and I can't wait to seek them out and reread the accompanying poem all over again. Even those poems based on films I haven't seen were interesting.

I Am Not Your Final Girl by Claire C. Holland

This book will help you achieve that difference. Holland really gets under your skin with these smart, powerful, dark poems. Poetry is everyone's own way to interpret subjects, objects, feelings and people among other things so you either connect with the view or you do not. Now, even when Clare's his mind deteriorated, he wasn't exactly a murderous lunatic or anything like that, just a guy with serious delusions that nineteenth-century mental health experts were unable to diagnose even today, nobody is exactly sure what specific malady plagued Clare's mind. Don't you want to come with me? Holland really gets under your skin with these smart, powerful, dark poem Claire C.

Your reality is composed of habits formed through many years of self-programming. And now I have a list of movies that I need to seek out and watch. The name Claire is mainly used in French. Abandonment, change—these things can make a person just wanna get away like in the Southwest commercials! During her treatment she received more than 60 blood and platelet transfusions and a bone marrow transplant. Holland, a timely collection of poetry that follows the final girl of slasher cinema - the girl who survives until the end - on a journey of retribution and reclamation. Thanks so much to my pals Emily and Audra for pushing me to give poetry a chance.

I learnt the prognoses and thought my life was over. It was tough to narrow it down to these because there were so many I loved. Instead, it presents a sense of fierce hope in the act of resistance, in rising up, in fighting back. Even before you finish this incredible book, you will come to know that your journey is just beginning and that the only limits that you face are the ones that you believe are there. The worst thing about the name: Everyone calls me Claire-Bear, which I hate with a passion. The Just in time for the Halloween season.

Whatever or wherever the contest was held, I am grateful to have received a copy of his collection, because I loved reading it. Both give fierce and dynamic voices to female characters, forcing readers to rethink tired notions of storytelling. So I picked this one up, and immediately after reading Holland's introduction I just wanted to stand up and clap. I was pleasantly surprised to see these as compe I heard about this collection on Horror Movie Podcast Episode 145. It sounds like music and they seem to love saying it, and love you for having a French name.

Is the abyss staring back at him in 3 or do you believe the religious consolation he intuits? He was a beautiful writer of words and a deep feeling soul that did not get much recognition in the late 19th Century. I was so happy to hear them use it recently in an episode of Penny Dreadful on Showtime. Separated into four parts, each poem carries the title of the name of a girl from a horror movie, and the poem itself is her story, from her perspective as a person who has been terrorized, hurt, or otherwise abused by some kind of villain—human, supernatural, alien—sometimes even she is the villain. Well that took the wind out of my sails and really knocked our honeymoon period into a downward spiral, I couldn't see the light So became depressed and questioned my marriage as I didn't want my husband to become a carer, it felt like I had been given this life sentence and wondered what I'd done so wrong to deserve this. I will use all this against you.
